Sebastian Marquez a/k/a "DJ Marquez" first worked the turntables at the age of 14. He purchased some used equipment and began experimenting in his Brooklyn apartment, mixing various hip-hop and freestyle hits of the early 80's. Sebastian would go on to DJ throughout his four years in high school at weekend dances and regional HS events.
While hip-hop developed and flourished throughout much of the 80's, a new sound was brewing out of Chicago, fusing with the disco/soul sound of New York City; this music was called House, named after the "Warehouse" nightclub in Chicago where it is believed to have been originated. Sebastian couldn't resist the drum beats, deep vocals, and the syncopated rhythms that were bourne of this new sound. House became his favorite subject, and he studied it intensely.
